Harishchandrachi Factory – A tribute to the father of Indian Cinema

Had it not been for the man with the revolutionary vision to create an industry of motion pictures in India, the country would not have had the largest film industry of the world producing more than 900 motion pictures in a year and employing more than 3 million people. Harsihchandrachi Factory is not only a movie but also a tribute the the revolutionary man who we know as Dadasaheb Phalke.

http://aniket.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/harishchandrachi-factory-06072009_182500.png?w=400&h=264

The movie shows how the first motion picture of India was made. It is a mesmerizing and spell binding movie and depicts what all Dadasaheb went through to make this movie in a very exciting and entertaining manner. Had it not been for this man the existence of film industry in our country would have been a question.

Life rocks in hostel !

Sweet smell of butter filling the surroundings, sound of bullets in the background along with the pops of popcorn, coffee sizzling and the sweet aroma filling the room, such is the environment in A 709 of Symbiosis Infotech Campus at 1 AM.

room1

Just to simplify all the above we had Public Enemy running on a 20 inch LCD along with some office apps running  on the Mini*, popcorn being popped for the late night movie in Gajju’s innovative and multipurpose kettle, along with sizzling hot coffee and butter bite cookies.

The life in A 709 starts after 12 AM when we return after wasting out whole day in classes or workshops along with a couple of utilized hours in gym and swimming pool. If it hadn’t been for these two hours we would have been dead. Someone truly called this place home away from home [I would have given the due credit but I’m sorry that I forgot the name of the gentleman].

As it seem from the above text that we are so busy studying but it’s not at all that way. More than half of our classes get cancelled, presentations postponed and evaluations delayed. We get a hell lot of time to enjoy but only a few smart people are aware of the ways to make the most of these hours. Whether it’s a quick game of Table Tennis, Basketball, Volley Ball, a mini Cricket match or an hour’s sneak peek into the gym or the swimming pool.

The few of us who have always thought of this place as a home really feel like at home on a long vacation. There are no worries about getting up late for the classes or missing an evaluation or two. Everything is manageable because we are management students and at least this much is expected from us. Those who thought that we are wasting our parents’ hard earned money are morons because they are wasting their time thinking about us while we have fun, we who don’t matter to them in any way.

Disaster Management is it an option?

http://www.tecsafety.com/images/old-images/disaster8.jpgOne fine day of my life and I get a message from the academic department about a whole day workshop on Disaster management. The very first reaction to such sms is WTF. But that is just out of instinct and we have a habit of saying these three words whenever a message about any acadamic activity come. All being said I came to the class just to see almost everyone there (this is a mandate for all).
Disaster management is a logical thing and should be inculcated in
all. It is a must for a country like India which is most of it is unorganized, uneducated, confused and at times totally unaware. There have been several incidents of disasters like the earthquake in Gujrat, cyclone in Orissa, flood and terrorist attacks in Mumbai and many more uncountable incidents.
Whenever there is such a workshop, it just is looked upon as a useless activity  because people fail to understand that what ever they are seeing on TV or reading in papers can effect them too. Once this awareness is spread that any one can be effected by these disasters, it would help people understand the gravity and motivate them towards learning the ways of safeguarding themselves as well as others.
The major issue with a developing country is the population, the unawareness and lack of education and to top it all people just dont want to learn how to safeguard them because they just think that they wont face any disaster themselves. What they fail to understand the disaster doesnt select the people and then come, a disaster of any type can happen anywhere. There was a time when there were a lot of small awareness program on TV which I saw while growing up but still that can not account for a formal education on disaster management.
Every school or college should incorporate such a program in form of workshops.

Ever since the end of days of Doordarshan and advent of cable TV there has been a dearth of awareness programs for any kind of disaster and accident awareness. This calls for a strict action to make such a program a mandate for every person and unless done so it would very difficult for a country like India to recover from and mitigate disasters.

Why it feels so unreal

There are several things in life that one wants. Those things when acquired give a sense of happiness and contempt to some while there is a bunch of people who have another feeling and that is the feeling of disbelief. It just doesnt feel like it really happened and it takes quite long for the feeling to sink in or may be it never does and they just move on.

There are some for whome the big really has to be BIG. Its very difficult for them to understand the tiny viny nuances of the life. They just do what they feel is right at that very moment. They hear all, listen to everyones point of view but ultimately end up doing what they had decided the very first time. Such people most of the times make very calculated choices but at times they get carried away and do what they feel like. Nothing is real for them and they just keep going on and on what ever happen. They just dont stop whether they lose a job, a friend or some very important part of their life. They are ever ready to start a fresh and always have a plan of some sorts. They kind of live in a simulation themselves and of which they have already visualized ever move.

I know of some one who always had his life this way. He was a bright student and admired by most of the fellows. A little shy but had group of good people around him. No one could really tell what he really wanted and it seemed like he just went with the flow of life or the life just flowed according to his will.

All was fine and then one day he lost his mother in a very complex inexplicable and unfortunate scenario. The world came to an end for him but it was surprising to see how he took care of all around him as if he had already prepared himself for the days to come and it only took him a couple of days to get over it. At least it seemed so because we will never come to know what was going on inside of him at that time. He managed all prety well and moved on in his life taking all who mattered with him.

This was not the end of the troubles and after three years that same person was diagnosed with carcinoma. This time again for us it was kind of a severe blow and the way he took it was truly admirable. He walked out of the treatmeant fair and square as if nothing has happened.

Life moved on and that person is now one of them who matter to most and seem to have everything in control. He did what he wanted and the way he wanted and I am damn sure that he has got what all he wanted and moved on.

I would never be able to disclose who this person is as that would render this piece of writing worthless. There would be some who by now have known who I am talking about but would request them to maintain the anonimity.

T. T. T. Track Twitter Trends

Twitter is HUGE and yes it really is. With more than 600 tweets per second it becomes very difficult to find the information of your taste. To overcome this limitation the Twitter community came up with a novel idea of #hashtags. If you are unaware of #hashtags we have it explained over here.

These #hashtags also gave birth to the trends on Twitter. The number of times the hashtag is repeated in tweets represents its trend. #Hashtags.org shows the latest trends on twitter and also allows you to search for a word and see its trend graph on Twitter.

To know what a #hashtag is about or two define your own for the public you can visit WTHashtag.com. This site is built upon wiki technology, making it easy for visitors to create their own definition entries for certain hashtags.

Here’s one I created: #Mtaram – we use this hashtag when we are sharing news about something cool, new or innovative happening on our Blog.

There are various websites and tools that you can use to track trends on Twitter.

Twist: See Trends In Twitter3593627192_25d6c8b028

Track trends on particular topics or people. The display is in graph form and can be useful in mining data for particular projects. If someone is talking about a topic you have great knowledge of the subject then it might just provide you an in to make an introduction.

Twidentify Twitter Search

This is a search engine that allows you to conduct searches on Twitter influence, related conversations, and Twitter trends. You can search for more than one term at once by separating them with commas. You’re then presented with a graph for the week showing you how each search term compares to the other. You can also hide search terms from your graph if you change your mind.

Tweetag

Here you can “browse the Twittosphere”. The most popular discussed topics within the past 24 hours are displayed underneath the search bar. Results are displayed in a Twitter-like fashion. You can see your search term in status updates only, retweets only, links only or questions. If you want to see them all at once, you can do that on the “all” tab. For each tweet displayed, you can reply to it or retweet it. The timeline is also updated in real-time so no need to refresh the page.

Twitterfall

This is another Twitter trend timeline updated in real-time. If the timeline moves too fast for you or you don’t like the color, you can change the settings to suite your preferences.

And Last but not the least is What the Trend?

This site doesn’t just show you what is trending on Twitter, it gives you an explanation as to why it’s trending — interesting concept. When you click on a hashtag it shows you the latest tweets, news and photos relating to that tag. You can go down the list or use the search bar to find a specific trend.

Try all these cool tools and let us know of your response. And if you happen to know any cool tool that we have missed please mention it in the comments.
