I was getting this error [Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem........ ] every time i reinstalled windows and it kept coming up and then stopped after few weeks. I never knew what was the reason for it and this time i decided to go after it.

ss101506.jpg

It is very annoying and comes only when I am online and whenever it pops up it taken down the internet and I have to restart my computer again. The error details show the problem with svchost.exe and netapi32.dll

Well the reason the error goes away after a few days is that I have windows update on and it downloads the updates and patches the errors in xp sp2. This time I turned it off and thats why I still get this error.

I order to get rid of this error and other variants of it do the following.

1. You receive a “Generic Host Process” error message after you start the computer, or DBCS attachment file names are not displayed in Rich Text e-mail messages

Hotfix information

loadTOCNode(2, ‘resolution’);A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. For Windows XP SP2, the Generic Host Process error can potentially occur on any system at any time. Although you receive the error message shortly after system startup, the actual error occurred during the previous system shutdown. Because of the broad nature of this issue, this hotfix was made available through Windows Update and distributed to users who have Automatic Updates enabled to eliminate this problem on Windows XP SP2 systems. For Windows XP SP2, you may experience one last Generic Host Process error upon restart after you install this hotfix. This is from the previous system shutdown before the new version installation was completed.

Well, when I try to install the file from MS site, its shut downs my laptop immediately and restarts. First I thought that it was the part of the installation process and the file had been installed and the problem had gone away. But it comes back. Please see if you can suggest something better. Ok so I get the ‘Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem’ window come up. Same thing happens randomly at a time when I go online. If I press the close button I can’t select anything, which I have to restart my laptop. If I don’t do anything and just leave the window there I’m fine, but the window stays there. I believe this started after I scanned for viruses, and then came up with a a window saying that the virus was being quarantined…well that’s what my roommate says. The program that says it’s quarantined is called NOD32 I believe, and the language is in Mainland China characters. Since I don’t know how to read Mainland China characters at the time I asked which each available option said, so I decided to delete the virus. Maybe the virus was attached to a file or something? I don’t know, well that’s what happened. Is there a way I can fix it? Is there a file I have to download?

    Oh and I’m Windows XP.

Guys this error is killing me..It randomly comes and goes away..Its not hardware related,Not software related and I don’t think its driver related

    I think it might be a windows 32bit or sp2 problem…
Here is what I did,I did not take the error away, but it makes it accure alot less

Turn of ur DEP and install a hotpatch…Just google both of them

  12. ehab hassan on December 5, 2008 at 9:56 pm

im having problem of generic host when i connect my net..after a while my browsing suddenly stops however my network is connected .

  38. Jerry on February 8, 2010 at 11:11 am

Few days ago, a friend brought his laptop to me to troubleshoot a weird problem. His laptop (Windows XP SP2) was connected to Internet, but could not surf any website.

Every installed software also could not access to Internet, such as antivirus online update, windows live messenger, etc. However, the PING command works on Command Prompt!

At first, I suspected one or more related windows services were turned off, but they looked fine after checking.

No clue. I searched Internet for the solution (using my Mac). After reading some forum posts by others, I suspected the problem was caused by corrupted Winsock2, which is used by windows network software to access network services.

Finally, I found the tutorial to repair Winsock2 corruption at Microsoft Support. If you are using Windows XP Service Pack 2, it only takes a command to report Winsock2:

type netsh winsock reset at the command prompt

After that, restart your computer and Winsock2 shall be fixed. It works for my friend’s laptop and he looked at me amazingly.

For Windows XP without SP2, it takes more steps to repair Winsock2. You can get the step-by-step instruction on the Microsoft Support.

Hi crazy tiger . The one thing that comes to mind is in your browsers´ internet options. Check to see, under connections, if you have it set to ¨always dial a connection¨. Try setting it to ¨dial whenever a connection is not present¨and see if that fixes the problem
See, if maybe your network card is failing, just st a lil hint It also could be in your Internet Settings in your Browser, look to see if a proxy is set.

If you have xp (perhaps other OS’s have this too) there is a tool that you can use to reset the TCP/IP settings to their original settings. you can also reset the winsock files too…

You just have to go into the command prompt and use the netsh command, and all was happy and good for me, and now all is working well….

if you want more info, you can get in touch with me, or check out the following link to microsoft…..

to reset tcp/ip go to http://support.microsoft.com/default…b;en-us;299357

to reset winsock2 files go to
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811259/\

or there is one more thing that cud be tried…

I still remember once when i had a problem in 2008.My problem was actually with the DNS. It problem involved able to detect the LAN and internet but cannot browse internet.

i changed my DNS server addresses, instead of detect automatically, to put the same address of the ADSL settings (prior to access of ADSL the part where you had to set it up).For me that was preferred address 203.50.2.71 alternate address 139.130.4.4

go to command prompt and ping 216.115.108.245
    and then ping yahoo.com

for me i could ping yahoo.com but could not ping 216.115.108.245 (which is yahoo)

if you could ping both i think its even better, though not sure.

reboot then all was good on the internet.
